The Cantons-de-l’Est region is about 70 kilometers of Montreal. It owes its Anglo-Saxon character to its proximity to the U.S. border, and its villages looks like those of New England. It is accessible through the Champlain Bridge, the Highway 10.
Population: 425,000 inhabitants
Main cities: Sherbrooke (regional capital), Granby, Magog, Cowansville
DISCOVER THE EASTERN TOWNSHIPS
The inhabitants of the Townships know how to take advantage of the proximity of their region to Montreal and the Northern States of New England to develop high quality attactions. The Eastern Townships offer several first-call facilities, including Mont SUTTON, Ski Bromont.com, Mont-Orford and Owl’s Head, for most of the winter sports, from downhill ski, tube sliding, a very popular activity in the region, to snowmobiling, ice fishing and dogsledding. Moreover, the region abounds with fine accommodations and restaurants serving regional cuisine.
The region features also the well-known Mégantic Mount, one of the highest mountains in Québec (1,105 m) with its unique Astrolab, which is opened from May to October but also year-round on reservation.
